I don't figure too many people do. Even other musicians I've talked to probably don't do it as much. My secret is that I've got music playing up there all the time, which probably helps skew things that way no matter what I'm thinking about.
Depends on how loud the phone is, I think. Typically I don't get up in daylight hours at all.
I didn't grow up listening to much music, so that probably didn't help matters.
I think my mind invents pins to drop to wake up from them. I'm glad you're better at resting, I'm not certain I'd want to be around when you're sleep deprived.
Good thing you can always make up for it while I'm around.
Don't know about better. More like... Instinctual compulsion that's hard to break. Getting tired is more a philosophical thing than actual sleepiness, so you don't have much to worry about so long as I'm not hungry.
