I'm leaving by night
I'm leaving alone
I'm leaving it lie
When you waken I'll be gone
I would not beg for me
As I would not beg for you
Though I'd like to be the one
To see you through

Every step you have taken
Disappears with the tide
You're torn up and shaken
With changing your mind
You haven't got the grace
To say you'll finally decide
And you haven't got the strength
To stay and fight

HISTORY

Her life was as uneventful as anyone's was for the times she'd lived in. Born in a small town in the northeast, and with enough talent and ambition and love of music to drive her out, Birdie moved to New York City as soon as she was 18 to pursue a career in the burgeoning folk scene in Greenwich Village. She was able to sing, but never became much of a name there despite her efforts. As the Vietnam war progressed, and one of her brothers was drafted to fight in it, she spent more and more of her time among political anti-war activists and attending demonstrations.
Birdie met Lorelai in the summer of 1967. For about a month, Lorelai would come to the bar to chat with her and watch her sing nearly ever fill-in set she got to do. One night, Lorelai made Birdie an offer: leave everything behind to follow her and pursue music completely, with three days to decide. The answer was a resounding yes, and Birdie spent those three days packing up and quitting her job, then writing home and telling friends she was heading out. Most assumed she'd gone to San Francisco or Chicago. Instead, Lorelai took her from the city and she was Embraced.
All through the 70's and early 80's, Birdie traveled with her Sire through the US and Canada, learning everything she would need to know to survive her new existence as Kindred, from how to navigate Camarilla courts to how best to keep the Beast at bay. They met with other Daughters, worked on developing her Melpominee, and sang together in any number of cities, towns, and highway bars, never staying in one place for long and passing themselves off as Toreador when official introductions were necessary.
During this time, she also learned about a unique problem among her bloodline: there were some elders losing their minds to a particular type of Frenzy. They would go on a rampage, singing to tear the flesh from bone and consuming any mortal in their path until they were given the Final Death. The whispers called them 'Banshees,' but there are so few Daughters already, it hadn't happened often enough to feel real, or any more concerning than any other Frenzy.
By the mid-80's, Birdie went off on her own keeping much the same pattern. Never in a city too long, traveling and singing. It wasn't really until the early 2010's that she managed to break that pattern. She'd been through Denver before and was acquainted with the Prince there, a Toreador named Edward who was a musician in his own right. This time she made the mistake of coming through with a group of very vocal Anarchs. For as tolerant as Edward was, he was also paranoid, and very unwilling to risk fighting in his city. The Anarchs were dispatched, and Birdie was given the title of Keeper of Elysium. He'd figured out what her real bloodline was, and had decided that her skills would be best used to help him keep the peace. Birdie had no choice but to go along with it, already out of her depth, wanting to avoid any worse repercussions, and being watched not only by Edward's ghouls but by other informants within his court.
Her 'job' for nearly ten years has been in Denver, singing not for herself but to ease tensions and further the Prince's agenda.
At the end of the decade, Birdie is ready to go. She's feeling suffocated, her sire has come to Denver only partially in her right mind, and finding a way out of the situation is her only priority anymore.

***Timeline is nebulous and subject to change. Left intentionally vague in a lot of parts to leave room for flexibility for threads and any needed adjustments. Usually played from her time in Denver, or the nebulous wandering around. If you have a preference for which, just let me know!***

PERSONALITY

Above almost everything else, Birdie has always wanted to be liked, to be loved, even, by the right people and for the right things. She's got a quick wit and a pleasant sense of humor on top of her supernaturally good voice, which she uses to charm people that interest her as much as she can. While in life this left her running in circles, chasing her own ambitions and other's approval, in death she's chasing connection of all kinds from the stage -- fans, friends, lovers. When she doesn't find it, or it sours, she can (usually) just move on to another city to try again.
It means that she'll be the one that's always up for a good time, flirtatious and entertaining, willing and able to hand out sympathies but constantly existing in a space where she's performing for an audience and waiting for the applause. It also means she can be sullen and manipulative, consciously or not, in an attempt to keep the attention and keep it positive even when she's fucked up. And, when she's really fucked up, she has no reservations about being petty and vindictive if she can justify it to herself.
While she has a difficult time now making those connections with humans because of her general disconnect from life after so many decades, her trouble with Kindred has always been that those relationships are plagued by ego, politics, and paranoia.
Her most consistent loyalty in death is to the Sisters of her bloodline, the Daughters of Cacophony, and to music. Regardless of any other problems or goals of her own, she will prioritize her Sisters, and she will sing almost compulsively. Sometimes even when the situation doesn't call for it.

APPEARANCE

At first glance, Birdie is pretty but unassuming. Dark hair with blunt bangs, simple and vintage-ish clothes, average height.
Her hair usually has braids, large plaits or smaller ones pulling her hair back from her face. Maybe the occasional headband fashioned to look like daisies, for the hippie aesthetic of it all. She prefers long, dangling earrings, simple clothes that have the distinct look of being 'vintage,' and through a modern lens might be called 'twee.' For performances, she's in dresses and tights with her hair up. For everyday, it's much more casual -- jeans or slacks, boots, button ups and blouses and old t-shirts she's picked up throughout her life.
Given that she's dead, though, some might notice she's paler than she ought to be even though she covers it with makeup when she can and can use Blush of Life when that's not enough. Sometimes her movements are unnatural -- too quick, or too still. Other times she'll hum a shapeless tune to herself.

ABILITIES

For the mundane, she has an exceptional mezzo-soprano singing voice, and she can play guitar and piano. But she's not exactly mundane.
Birdie is a vampire, and that comes with many of the usual tropes: Immortality, to a point; the ability to supernaturally heal herself; the need to drink blood; will absolutely catch fire and die in the sun; etc. (See here for all the details.) Vampires also have Disciplines that are typically specific to their clan or bloodline, and Birdie's main discipline is Melpominee. These powers are specifically tied to her voice and cannot be duplicated or broadcast electronically. Birdie's particular skill-set in this discipline includes things like throwing her voice (both to anywhere within sight, and to a single person she is familiar with wherever they are regardless of distance), projecting a feeling in her audience through song, or mesmerizing them, and potentially driving someone mad with it.

Melpominee: The Missing Voice; Phantom Speaker; Toreador's Bane; Madrigal

Presence: Awe; Dread Gaze; Entrancement

Fortitude: Resilience; Unswayable Mind; Toughness
